Great Moments in Wisconsin Football

2005: Wisconsin vs. Michigan
Whenever Wisconsin plays Michigan in Camp Randall the crowd is always really wild. In the Big Ten Michigan could be compared to the Yankees of baseball. You either really love them or absolutely hate them. And especially if you’re from Wisconsin because Michigan has had Wisconsin number forever. So when Michigan came to newly renovated Camp Randall with the largest crowd in Wisconsin history you knew it was going to be really crazy. The first half of the game was very mellow and at half the score was 13-3. After the Bargers added a couple of field goals in the 3rd the score was 13-9. What was next was one of the most exciting fourth quarters I have ever seen. With about 11 min to go in the game Brian Calhoun the badgers running back scored by breaking 3 tackles inside the 10 yard line and beating the Michigan safety to the corner of the end zone to give the badgers a 16-13 lead. The next couple of possessions by both teams were failures. With about 7 min to go the Badgers were driving and in the past years the Badgers have found ways to give Michigan the win. Whether it be missed field goals fumbles or any other way possible. So when they were driving alls I was thinking is don’t fuck it up. Well sure enough with around 6 min on the clock the Badgers Quarterback John Stocko threw a pick when the Badgers were in scoring position. And then to add to Michigan QB Chad Henne hit WR Marrio Manninham for a 72 yard flea flicker touchdown pass on 3rd and 15 with 5 min left. Every One is thing oh great here we go again. But unlike past years the Badgers found a way to battle back. Stocko the same QB that threw the pick, lead the team down and then capped it off on 3rd down and goal with the game on the line. One of the Greatest Play Calls in Wisconsin Football History. Watch the Video below to see the play.

I had been going to Badger games for almost 10 years before this game and now 5 years after this game and I have never heard it as load in Camp Randall Stadium as it was on that day.

  1. That was a killer play. To call a ballsy play like that with all that was on the line is amazing. College football will forever be a different and more exciting beast then the NFL.
